In the summer of 1901, in my home country of China, I performed in a traditional opera—The Legend of the White Snake, a Chinese folk tale—as appeasement for British guests. I caught the eye of an audience member and, long story short, my manager sold me to him.

Upon arriving on British shores, he revealed his true nature as a vampire and deemed me his "pretty" plaything. He dressed me to his liking and paraded me at masquerades, balls, and other social functions, where my blood was shared among his friends and associates. I don’t remember the day I awoke as a vampire; it was indistinguishable from any other. There is no dignity in death, nor undeath.

In 1931, my master fought a band of monster hunters. When all were critically injured, I seized the chance to kill him. Afterwards, I feasted on the hunters’ blood. Now freed from my master’s shackles, I’ve never felt so alive. I’ll spare you the coven’s political machinations, but I will say this: he’d be proud of me.
